D55155 Air Compressor Review
The best features of this pancake compressor from DeWalt are its sleek design and low weight
With this compressor, DeWalt made some of the regular maintenance tasks easy to do. The dipstick to check the oil is accessed easily, and the air filter is in a round plastic canister, which screws into the pump head. DeWalt recommends simply blowing off the air filter to clean it unless it’s filthy.
The compressor puts out 4.5 cfm at 100 psi, enough to run two small nail guns or one framing nailer. When nailing sheathing, I had to slow down only a little. And the 4-gal. single tank has enough capacity that the motor doesn’t cycle constantly.
The unit weighs a little more than 60 lb. and has a wide tank-mounted carrying handle. The rubber base pad protects finished floors and helps to prevent the compressor from sliding around in my truck bed. Although I didn’t check it with a noise meter, it doesn’t sound as loud as some small compressors, but it’s still loud enough that I wear earplugs when I use it in a small room. And I’m partial to the way the electric cord wraps around the two sturdy lugs welded onto the frame.
