6834 Autofeed Screw Gun Review
Unlike most other autofeed screw gun systems, the drive motor and autofeed unit on this model from Makita are inseparable
Unlike most other autofeed screw gun systems, the drive motor and autofeed unit on the Makita 6834 are inseparable. This model jammed twice during testing, but each jam was easily remedied by hand-cycling the autofeed mechanism. Operation is smooth, but the general design seems better suited to drywall and hand-held operations than flooring. Adding or removing the Makita’s extension handle (an optional accessory) required more effort and time than any other tool we tested–and the handle must be removed to fit the tool into the carrying case. Two-handed operation was difficult because the auxiliary hand grip that wraps around the extension tube was tiring to hold for long periods. With a maximum screw length of 2-1/4 in., this tool isn’t for deck builders.
The kit as tested included the autofeed unit with three #2 Phillips drive bits, an extension handle, and a hard plastic case.
