Announcing Our Roof Framing Gallery Challenge Winners
For our latest gallery challenge, we asked readers to show us their Hips, Valleys & Dormers for a chance to win one of five Paslode Framing Nailers. The responses were fantastic but in the end, only five could be selected to take home those orange beauties.
Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the roundup:
|
Member, 2paul’s self-designed “Shingle Style with Tower” received a great deal of traffic on our site. One look at the grand design and its beautiful execution and you can understand why. Our audience especially loved the way in which the vast majority of the tower’s roof framing was performed on terra-firma and later placed atop the home with a crane. |
Member, Huck’s “Complex Cut and Stack from Pre-Cut Package” was a great example of efficient and organized framing. Huck confronted his crew’s slowdown problems head on, deciding to alter his framing methods and pre-cut all members beginning on day one. |

Interior Dome Under Trussed Hip |
Member, warren6810’s “Interior Dome Under Trussed Hip,” while beautiful to look at, might give even the most experienced framer a headache. Among the more interesting aspects of this roof element was the fact that the dome had to be fit into trusses which had been raised up about four feet to allow for the dome. |
|
Member, chabest’s “Piano Barn” was a beautifully executed first attempt at timber frame construction. Supersized timbers and varying pitches combined with an inexperienced timber framer made for quite an impresive structure in our eyes. |
|
Member, dbert’s “Heavy Timber Cross-Gables & Lantern Tower” stood out as yet another exceptional example of Framed primarily from slavaged Cheery and Douglas Fir, the highlight of this structure is the roof’s intersection with a stunning tower, framed on the ground and hoisted atop the structure. |
Congratulations to all the lucky winners and remember, we’ll be back with more gallery challenges in the future!
