Douglas Fir Stained Siding
How to ensure that your wood stained siding has beauty that endures.
I was back to do a one year service call on this guest house my company built a year ago, and I was struck by the beauty of the Doug Fir Siding. It looked as good a year later as the day we installed it. In this video I’ll share the How To tips to ensure your wood stained siding has beauty that endures.
The credit goes to Austin Architects Rick & Cindy Black for great detailing, and I also want to plug the Sikkins Cetol 123 stain we used. This has been a fantastic product. Enjoy the video.

The siding looks great. What about all the insects that will want to nest inside of it?
I was wondering the same thing myself, tomgold. I'd imagine they installed screen all atop the spacers for the rain-screen. I'd love to know the exact details, though!
In any case, that's a real nice looking project. Well done!
@tomgold: This video was shot 1 year after completion and I didn't see any insects. But, with that 3/8" space between boards it could be a concern. Here in Texas it's usually wasps or mud daubers. Both are easy to eradicate and they both come regardless of space behind the siding or not. Best, Matt Risinger
Great looking project, Matt. Thanks fore sharing it with us.

@DanMorrison. Thanks!
@linzhanfh. What? Dang robots, isn't there anything FHB can do about these posts? No one on this forum is buying a Guucci bag.
