To utilize the space beneath the stairwell which is close to the kitchen, the designer and builder made the stairs wider than normal to create a built-in pantry. This still allowed for a standard width stairwell beneath leading to the basement. For character in the new house, the client requested to have salvage materials from her old farmhouse incorporated into the design. The hardware, stair treads, rails, and doors are all reclaimed items. This is one example of how the designer, builder and homeowner worked together to build a new home that feels like it’s been lived in for a long time.

Good example of productive communication between owner and builder, yes. It looks complete.
