This is a custom designed swinging bookcase. The customer wanted it built on a standard interior door with the bookcase swinging out. This posed a problem of concealing the hinges of the door beside the bookcase. This was overcome by creating a second moving panel that swings out of the way to create a pocket for the bookcase to swing into.

Very nice work! What kind of hinges were used to handle the potentially very heavy load of the bookcase?
It swings on 6 - 4 1/2" ball bearing heavy duty hinges, with long screws into re-enforced framing.
Excellent design. How do you keep the secondary panel from scratching the face of the bookcase as it slides across it?
