Cedar Siding Art
While I’ve worked as a carpenter handyman for many years, this was my first decorative siding project. I call him, “The Giant at the Back Door”. I’ve gotten so much positive feedback from it that I decided to share it.
The enclosed outside back stairs, built many years ago, never looked like they belonged to the rest of the house. They had vertical tongue and groove boards that had shrunk over the years and the result was a drafty stairway. While clapboards, similar to the rest of the house, would have helped tighten the airspace, the stairway would still look like an afterthought. This trapezoid space was just crying for a different treatment. And so the giant was born.
There are several spaces on the stairway that still need siding. I can’t wait till this coming fall and winter when I’ll have time to add more designs.
I should also add that I was originally inspired by several articles and examples that I originally saw in Fine Homebuilding magazine including Inside Out by Robert Sprachman
