When I first started building houses 20 years ago with a Production builder we used Thermoply on all our houses for sheathing & weatherization. We simply taped the seams then installed the windows in a bead of caulk. I was basically brainwashed by the corporate team that this was a “good” method for building a house. Yet something seemed wrong to me about this cardboard sheathing.
Now that I’m a Custom Builder I get to build how I want to BUILD! (within reason, budget, and architecture constraints of course) So, the question for today is: OSB vs Plywood for Sheathing?
Let me know what you think after watching this video I shot while building a house in Barton Creek in West Austin. What is your preference? Why?
Here’s some product links to what you saw in the video. Carlisle CCW 705. Stinger Cap Stapler for Tyvek. Tyvek Commercial D Wrap. Dupont Flexwrap window sill flashing. DuPont window flashing tape.
