Designed on the fly and built with surplus materials, the coop has been quite a conversation starter at our house. My youngest daughter raised a couple of chicks and when they got too big for the cardboard box we built this as a father-daughter project. The basic box is 1/2 inch plywood with hand-cut cedar strips for the roofing. The front hinges down for easy cleaning and removal of the refuse tray. There are two nesting boxes in the rear and a PVC pipe with a poultry nipple that provides water for the resident. Every night ight around dark, J.S. Bawk ascends the staircase to her lofty bedroom, we latch the door for the night, and she sleeps safe and sound.
