Here’s a staircase that is grand enough for Gloria Swanson to descend for her closeup. But this one is in Hilton Head, South Carolina, not on Sunset Boulevard. Designed by Group Three Architects of Hilton Head, this elegant stairway suggests some of the great southern plantation homes and adds grandeur to this foyer. The stair is freestanding and was custom framed off site with finish materials installed on the job. The stair treads and railings are of mahogany and the floor is limestone with marble insets. The foyer and stairway combine to set the stage for experiencing the rest of the house, which is equally grand.
