Panasonic recently introduced the WhisperControl Condensation Sensor Plus, a humidity- and temperature-sensitive bath-fan switch that adapts seasonally to maintain appropriate indoor-humidity levels. Less sophisticated humidity-sensing switches require seasonal adjustment to prevent excess humidity or overdrying with seasonal changes. The new fan control also has an adjustable minutes-per-hour timer that runs the fan on a regular schedule for compliance with ASHRAE 62.2 ventilation standards.
Panasonic claims the new switch is better than existing humidity-sensing switches, which activate the fan based on a rapid rise of indoor humidity. This method can cause the fan to run erratically, resulting in wasted energy for a fan that runs too much or humidity buildup when the fan runs too little. The WhisperControl Condensation Sensor Plus solves this dilemma with sophisticated electronics that take into account the regional climate, the size of the bathroom, and the occupants’ preferred dryness levels. It sells for about $65.
