I use a chainsaw to make a living, building scribe-fit log houses in Southern Idaho. Some type of ear protection is a must in this business, and I use the soft foam earplugs that resemble long, miniature marshmallows. The trouble is, when I take them out and drop them into my tool pouch, they quickly become too grungy to re-use.
I solved this problem by putting a plastic 35mm film canister on my tool belt to act as a storage jar. I cut a slit in the pry-off lid, slipped a length of knotted leather thong through the cut, then tied off the thong on my tool belt. Now I’ve got a handy, clean place to keep my earplugs.

What is a "35mm film canister"?
A "35mm film canister" is a small, plastic, cylindrical case that hold a single roll of 35mm photographic film (for non-digital, 35mm film cameras). The case is about 1 1/2" tall and 1" in diameter. The case has a plastic lid that can easily be snapped on or pulled off.
Great storage containers, but hard to find now, unless you know or are one of the few still using film.
I got tired of the same problem so now I use the plugs that hang around my neck.
What is "film"?
Just kidding!
A similar item would be the soap bubble containers used at weddings. Check them out at Oriental Traders magazine.
I think this is an old 'tip'. Older than digital cameras...
