When trimming doors or countertops, carpenters often apply some sort of tape to the base of their saws to keep from marring the work. Masking tape is a bad choice for this because it isn’t very durable and it’s tough to remove. Duct tape is also a poor choice because it makes the saw hard to push. Mylar tape, on the other hand, is slippery enough to glide over the work, and it’s also easy to peel off the saw’s shoe.
