Using contact cement is a tricky business. When using it to glue down laminates to countertops, I use short lengths of drywall corner bead to separate the two glue-coated surfaces until I’m sure of correct placement (see drawing). Then by removing them one at a time, the laminate can be carefully and accurately pressed into place. The corner-bead scraps are easy to keep clean and can be stacked in a compact pile for easy transport and storage.
