As a roofing contractor, I have found that nail guns have a tendency to slide off roofs — even if the pitch is only 4-in-12. To keep mine from disappearing over the edge, I apply thick pads of silicone caulk to the parts of each gun that contact the roof when the gun is at rest. I’m not stingy with the stuff. The silicone pads should be at least 1 in. square and 1/2 in. thick. Not only do the pads provide traction for the tools on the roof, they also protect the metal casings during the course of daily use. It’s not pretty, but it works.
