It’s annoying to misplace the chuck key for any drill, and dangerous if one is left in a drill press. I solved the problem in my shop by attaching my chuck key to a retractable key ring — the kind that is typically clipped onto a belt. I affixed the key ring to the side of my drill press. Now it’s always at a convenient distance, and the key ring’s spring-loaded cable always reminds me to remove the key when I’m finished using it. This type of key ring might also work well for hand drills — especially the cordless kind that is notorious for turning up keyless.
