Even with a proper drill and a sharp bit, repetitive drilling overhead in concrete or steel can wear out your arm muscles. The two methods illustrated in the drawing show how a helper and I solved the problem.
In the top half of the drawing, a hydraulic floor jack with a 2×4 post atop its lift plate supports the bottom of a drill. One person holds the drill and operates its switch, while the helper uses the jack-handle’s lever to maintain constant pressure. With a little practice, the helper will learn how much pressure to apply just by the sound of the drill.
A simpler technique is illustrated in the lower portion of the drawing. Here a horizontal lever made of a length of pipe bears on a 2×4 post. A notch in the top of the post helps to center the lever. The lever pushes up on the side handle of the drill.
