As a carpenter living and working on the Oregon coast, I have always found it a challenge to keep my saws and tape measures clean, dry and free of sand and grit. Sand is hard enough on tools and equipment. Add rain, sawdust, salts and wood sap, and you’ve got a real abrasive nuisance.
I’ve found that liberal doses of silicone spray applied to my fully extended tape measures makes them last two to three times longer than usual. Silicone spray coats smoothly, dries cleanly and leaves surfaces slick. Oil-based sprays dry out and leave a greasy film. Spraying the shoe and blade of my circular saw makes for smooth, clean and fast cuts. Ditto for table saws.
