In the final phases of a building project, it seems like you can never have enough benches. The drawing shows how I assemble components that would otherwise be headed for the dumpster to make quick, sturdy benches for the painters and trim carpenters. With 1-1/4-in. drywall screws, I affix the lids from joint-compound buckets to a pair of 2x4s. Snapped on their bucket bases, the planks make surprisingly sturdy work platforms. And they can be broken down for easy transport to the next job.
