Our company recently remodeled an office suite, and part of the job included replacing the ceiling. The new ceiling was to be of the same material as the old one — acoustical tile. Before starting the job we noted that the ceiling had a lot of complicated cutouts for recessed lights, smoke alarms and air-conditioning ducts. So during the demolition phase of the project, we took down only the full-size tiles, leaving the specials in place. When it came time to put in the new ceiling tiles, the original ones became the templates for all the necessary cuts. This technique saved us a lot of time.
