Whenever I have to join two sections of handrail together with rail bolts, I use a handscrew with pieces of bending mold screwed to the jaws to align the sections. As shown in the drawing, bending mold is milled to conform to the profile of the handrail, only in reverse. The type I’ve used is made by the L. J. Smith Company, Inc. (Rt. 1, Bowerston, Ohio 44695; 614-269-1133). They make bending mold in both yellow pine and polyester resin. The material is sold by the foot through their retail outlets.
