The drawing shows a simple and inexpensive way to level a cabinet when you can’t get under it with a shim. It requires nothing more than a 2x block and a 3/8-in. lag bolt. The length of the bolt depends on the height of the toeboard.
To make the leveler, I start by drilling a 3/8-in. hole in the block. The depth of this hole should equal the unthreaded portion of the bolt. Then I drill a 1/4-in. hole through the remaining portion of the block. To cut the threads for the bolt, I run the bolt into the hole its full length and then back it out. Now for the modifications.
I lop off the bolt’s head with a hacksaw, then use the saw to cut a slot in the bolt’s shank. Finally, I cut off the tip of the bolt and file it flat. The bolt is now ready to be installed and run into its hole with a screwdriver. Once it engages the floor, it’s out of view below the level of the cabinet’s bottom shelf, but it remains accessible.
