Quick-built T-bench
Sometimes it just makes sense to build a sawhorse out of job-site scraps.
A carefully joined sawhorse with splayed legs and compound-angled notches is a thing of beauty; however, the time it takes to make one isn’t always available. A similar work platform that is plenty stable and a whole lot faster to build is the T-bench (see drawing). To make one, I begin by cutting a couple of legs (16 in. to 24 in. long) out of 2×8 or wider framing lumber. Then I cut a piece about 3 ft. long for the top. Once the top is nailed to the legs, I use a couple of 1xs to brace the legs. Then I stabilize one of the legs with a plywood scrap. Done. Three minutes and one T-bench later, it’s back to work.
