Some wood and metal scraps are too useful to throw out, but keeping them accessible without generating a mess can be difficult. The drawing shows my solution to the problem. It’s a fiber drum mounted on four 2-in. rubber wheels that swivel. I put a plywood divider down the center of the drum to keep the long and short pieces separated, and I used a jigsaw to cut down one side of the drum to make it easier to retrieve the small pieces.
I found the drum at my local agricultural supply store, and it came with a plywood bottom. Some newer containers of similar size are made of plastic. They should work equally well, but you might have to add your own plywood bottom to ensure a sturdy base for the wheels.
