It’s a messy job, but sometimes I have to plunge my circular saw through several layers of asphalt shingles to cut a hole in an old roof. Before I bury my carbide-tipped sawblade in the shingles, I give it a good dose of Pledge spray wax. The wax keeps the tar in the shingles from adhering to the blade or to the saw’s discharge chute. Reapplications of the wax are necessary, but the roofing cuts like wood.
