Here is an easy way to ensure a clean break when you have to trim just a bit off a piece of glass. First, find a straight piece of 2×4 that is at least as long as the piece of glass that needs to be trimmed. Next, cut a groove in the edge of the 2×4 that is just wide enough to accept the glass without being forced and deep enough to reach the scored line on the piece of glass.
After scoring the glass, slip it into the 2×4 and align its edge with the score mark. Lift up on the 2×4, as shown in the drawing, and the glass should break evenly right where you want it to. Be sure to wear gloves and eye protection whenever you work with glass.
