As a remodeling carpenter, I always have trouble using up a whole bundle of insulation. And once the bundle is opened, the blankets puff up to many times their compressed size. So if I don’t use all of them, I end up with a pile of insulation that presents a storage problem.
The solution was inspired by a box of facial tissues. As shown in the drawing, I made an X-shaped slit across the top of a bundle of insulation just large enough to extract the top blanket. Then the rest of the blankets came out one at a time, just like tissues, while the remaining blankets stayed compact. By the way, this trick will only work with fiberglass blankets that come packaged in 4-ft. or 8-ft. lengths.
