I use my battery-powered drill a lot, and I carry a spare battery in my tool belt to keep downtime to a minimum. Problem is, if the fasteners in my pouch engage the battery’s contacts, a discharged battery or even a fire can result. The drawing shows how I protect my spare batteries with a ducttape sheath.
To make the sheath, I start by wrapping the battery with a thin plastic bag or a piece of plastic food wrap. The plastic should extend around the bottom of the battery and up the sides to within a couple of inches of the top. Next, I wrap the battery with several layers of duct tape, taking care not to wrap it too tightly. The sheath should be easy to pull off, but it won’t come off unless you want it to.
