Moving big beams is a tough job, even when help is able and willing. To keep the effort to a minimum, I get the job done with the help of an old push-type lawn mower. As shown in the drawing, I stripped the old lawn mower down to its frame by removing its handle and blade assembly.
I place this dolly under the beam at a point that is one-third the length of the beam from its end. Up front, I loop a rope around the beam, which allows me to lift the beam about 4 in. off the ground without bending over. With a little forward momentum, the beam just rolls along. To brake, just drop the nose to the ground. This contraption works much better moving beams than it ever did on my lawn.
