My little work stool stays put, or scoots around on wheels, depending on what I need it for. As illustrated in the drawing, the stool is accompanied by a dolly with 2-in.-dia. swivel-type casters.
Most of the time, I use the stool without its dolly. Its 10-1/2-in. height is enough to reach 90% of the construction jobs inside the house. It’s also useful for small children to reach the sink.
I put the stool on its dolly for those chores when I want to scoot around close to the floor for nailing or drywall finishing. It’s even good for waxing the car.
When I’m moving a 5-gal. bucket of paint or joint compound around a room, I put it on the combo stool/dolly. It’s equally useful for moving construction equipment or furniture when no one is around to help.
The stool is 8-1/2 in. by 15 in. at the top and 10-1/2 in. high. The legs are angled outward and are made to fit atop a 2×12 (the dolly). The dolly is the same length as the stool, and I cut it only after the stool has been made. A 1×12 with cutouts for the legs is screwed to the top of the 2×12. This keeps the stool from sliding off the dolly while still being readily detachable. Although it’s okay to sit on the stool on its dolly for low-to-the-ground jobs, you should never stand on it. It’s too unstable for that.
