I recently bought a Makita 6916 impact driver. I think this tool is great, and the other day, I hauled it up a two-story scaffold to help me box a bunch of beams with MDX. As usual, I ended up holding the driver between my legs when I wasn’t using it to drive screws. Thinking there must be a better place to park it, aside from a holster, I decided to remodel it with a belt hook.
I removed the screw from the bottom of the driver’s casing and extended the hole through the plastic flange with a drill bit. Then I added the belt hook with a #8 by 32 by 1-1/4 in. machine screw, as shown in the drawing. The hook is from a Senco FinishPro 25 brad nailer. I ordered it from the repairparts catalog at www.juldan.com for $4.20, plus shipping.
I had to make a small cutout in the tool’s plastic carrying case to accommodate the hook. But that was easy to do with a RotoZip-type drywall router. My impact driver is so light and compact that I barely notice it hanging from my belt or tool pouch.
