I am a service manager in new construction. During a recent service call to a customer’s home, I was replacing a gouged piece of vinyl flooring when, after cutting the patch, I discovered I didn’t have a mastic trowel with me. Rummaging through my van, I discovered the next best thing: a clip of nails for my framing gun. I applied the mastic with a putty knife and then ran the nail clip across the mastic to spread it. The evenly spaced nail heads left uniform 1/8-in. spacing. The clip worked great.
