High-end bath fittings can be smart as well as beautiful. For proof, consider this minimalist marriage of two polished chrome cylinders. Made by Water Decor, as part of its Bridge line, the faucet features touch-free technology.
This “surround-sensor” technology senses the weight of your approach by scanning in a 3-in., omnidirectional zone around the faucet’s spout. When you move into range, circuitry in a small control box under the sink activates a solenoid valve, letting the water flow. The temperature is constant; you set it once, using a dial on the solenoid valve. The sensor knows when you move out of range, and it shuts off the water and resets itself. The effect is similar to that of infrared faucets in public bathrooms, but because this sensor is activated by weight, it isn’t triggered by inanimate objects. It also activates more reliably than infrared; no more waving your hands under the faucet to turn it on.
The solid-brass faucet is available in nine standard finishes and dozens of custom finishes.
