7812 Shop Vacuum Review
Porter-Cable's 10-gallon shop vacuum has a useful combination of size and features, including a tool-triggered start mechanism
The Porter-Cable 7812 is lightweight enough to carry up and down a flight of stairs. Of the machines we tested, it was the easiest to work with when not using a bag. The canister’s smooth edges and squared-off back corners funnel contents easily into any size of receptacle. It lacks a drain or a water tank, and trying to dump water or other fluids straight from the vacuum is a strenuous and messy chore.
To clean the filter, a ridged shaft is drawn across the pleats. But a small handle and a shaft that doesn’t contact the entire filter make this system less effective. Unlike the other vacuums tested, the Porter-Cable 7812 doesn’t come standard with a HEPA filter or offer the option of upgrading to one.
