Upward Expansion
Adding a third floor doesn't always mean on top of the second story
When the traditional style of this Portland, Ore., bungalow prevented the construction of an additional story, builder Scott Grice lifted the house to increase its size. Using a unified hydraulic-lift system, a building crew raised the foundation 4 ft., creating a basement with 9 ft. of headroom and more than 1000 sq. ft. of new living space. This video documents the basement before and after, and the way the lift system works.

Where's the AFTER basement? The video stops before it even has walls.
