Bionic Wrench Review
The Bionic Wrench is an adjustable wrench with an ingenious design
Whenever I need to tighten a bolt, I spend more time sorting through wrenches that don’t fit than actually using the one that does. Thanks to LoggerHead Tools and their new 8-in. Bionic Wrench, I no longer have to turn my toolbox upside down.
Looking like a cross between a pair of pliers and a nutcracker, this laminated-steel wrench fits both American and metric hex nuts or bolts from 7/16 in. to 3/4 in., or 11 mm to 20 mm.
It’s an ingenious design: As the padded handles are squeezed together, six flat surfaces close concentrically to fit around the bolt. Unlike many adjustable wrenches, though, the Bionic Wrench won’t slip off and morph the bolt head into a hopelessly rounded disk. That’s because more hand pressure equates to a tighter grip at the business end.
Although an outstanding tool, the Bionic Wrench does have one major limitation: It won’t fit everywhere an open-end or box-end wrench can operate. Because of its head design, it requires about 3/4 in. of clearance around the bolt or nut to fit properly. The Bionic Wrench is also available in 6-in. and 10-in. sizes.
