DW082 Laser Plumb Bob Review
This laser plumb bob from DeWalt works successfully on surfaces up to 4 degrees out of level, and it casts up and down plumb points simultaneously
Laser technology is making life easier for builders, but making the switch from using an old-fashioned bubble level or string-line can be challenging for some of us. That’s why I appreciated the simplicity and precision of DeWalt’s new laser plumb bob. Lightweight and shaped like a large tape measure, this gizmo rests on the floor or attaches to a tripod and delivers bright red plumb dots above and below.
I tested the tool on a remodeling job where I had to locate a wall between an existing floor and ceiling. The laser’s vertical beam simultaneously casts dots in two directions, one up and one down. Position the laser’s red beam over the framing layout on the floor, and seconds later, a bright red dot shows up on the ceiling. The same technique also works for locating soffits as well as lighting over a worksurface. Transferring baluster locations from marks on treads to the underside of a stair rail is a snap.
This tool may cost a bit more than an old brass plumb bob and string, but the wind doesn’t blow the laser’s red dot around on a windy day. This tool is available only in a kit (model no. DW082K), which includes a case and 4 AA batteries.
