STX 250 Stout X-Band Cordless Bandsaw Review
The Stout X-Band is a cordless bandsaw that is perfect for cutting pipe of all types in diameters up to 2-1/2 in
Designed by a former pipe fitter, the X-Band cordless bandsaw is perfect for cutting pipe of all types in diameters up to 2-1/2 in. John Crandell, a Flint, Mich., electrician, uses his X-Band mainly for cutting rigid-steel conduit, but he says it also works well on all-thread rod, black-iron pipe, angle iron, copper, PVC, and the occasional piece of wood.
The X-Band is light (8 lb.), is relatively quiet, and creates only a small amount of debris. According to Crandell, however, the best thing about the tool is that it can be used with one hand, which leaves the other hand free to hold the workpiece securely. The tool comes with one Starrett 24-tooth-per-in. bimetal blade installed, and another one as a spare.
The X-Band is sold with a heavy-duty case, two 18v rechargeable batteries, and a charger. Crandell says that the tool isn’t a substitute for an electric bandsaw, but it works fine for residential and light-commercial work. A fully charged battery usually lasts most of the day.
