SHD77 Circular Saw Review
This worm-drive saw, the latest version of the venerable model from Skil, enjoys the reputation of being an indestructible powerhouse
Skil is synonymous with worm-drive design. Apparently, the company doesn’t think it should mess with a good thing. The only changes on the latest model are that the amps have been boosted from 15 to 13 and that a rafter hook is now standard. The top handle and trigger handle are both exactly the same as on the Skil Mag, and we found them more comfortable than the handles on any other brand. The top handle is set at an angle to the body rather than perpendicular to it, as on other saws.
On the downside, this saw’s blade guard got hung up more frequently than others, although its overall performance was good. This saw also had a high level of kick when we pulled the trigger. Finally, at 16 lb., it was the heaviest of the worm-drive saws we tested. Still, this saw enjoys the reputation of being an indestructible powerhouse.
