6514 Hatchet Cordless Reciprocating Saw Review
The folding handle on this cordless reciprocating saw from Milwaukee turns this motorized club into a sleek, compact drill-shaped saw
The folding handle on this saw reduces a rather ungainly looking 20-in.-long motorized club into a sleek, compact, drill-shaped saw that can squeeze into some tight spots. In addition, the new folding handle on the Hatchet means that one-handed operation is no longer an awkward affair but is ergonomically akin to using a cordless drill. The saw feels balanced in the hand, giving a lot more control than a conventional reciprocating saw that’s really designed for two-handed use.
This saw also has orbital action, a feature that no other cordless saw has. This feature makes the saw cut more aggressively, which is a good thing given the tool’s short 3?4-in. stroke. The Hatchet also has an easily adjusted pivoting shoe that can be moved for precision cutting.
One thing that I wasn’t able to test was the folding handle’s durability. Although I have no specific complaints about the design and expect that Milwaukee has done its engineering homework, I can’t help but think that this handle may be a potential weak link. Only time will tell. Still, the folding handle on this saw is the kind of feature that makes this cordless tool worthy of serious consideration.
