Heli-Tube Spirally Cut Cable Wrap Review
Designed to wrap around the frayed end of a power tool cord, Heli-Tube Spirally Cut Cable Wrap protects the cord and provides a larger bending radius than simply wrapping the cord with electrical tape
The cord on every power tool I have used for more than a couple of years is cracked and worn near where it leaves the tool. Although the thickened cable insulation at the tool’s handle keeps the wires attached when tools swing to the ground from the top of a ladder, it does little to end cord fray.
I recently tried Heli-Tube, a plastic cylinder cut in a spiral (available at electrical-supply houses) that may end this irritation. As I wound the Heli-Tube around my circular-saw cord, I thought, “Why not just use electrical tape?” I soon saw the difference. Heli-Tube increases the bending radius of the power cord. With a bigger bending radius, cords are less subject to fatigue. I’ll have to wait a few years to see if it works, but as an inexpensive, simple addition to the toolbox, Heli-Tube is worth a try.
