I modified one of my 12-in. bar clamps to allow me to get a grip on angled surfaces, such as a roof deck, while positioning fascia boards. As shown in the drawing above, I drilled and tapped the top jaw of the clamp to accept a 1/4-in.-dia. setscrew. I sharpened the tip of the screw to make sure it would get a good bite into its target.
I also drilled and tapped the movable bottom jaw so that I could preset the clamp distance—a great time-saver and frustration eliminator.
