So who really makes the best window?
Windows are among the most expensive components that go into a house, and also the most complex. Chosen wisely, they contribute to warming in winter, cooling in summer. Manufacturers have dramatically expanded what’s on the market with a category of super efficient windows that leave double-pane low-e units in the dust. They also come with super big prices.
This week’s Q&A Spotlight from Green Building Advisor starts with a question about experiences GBA readers have had with high performance windows. Responses are all over the map, proving that customer service and technical support can sometimes seem as important as product quality and performance.
The discussion also leads to other intricacies of the window buying dilemma, including the down side of the government’s tax credit for energy efficient windows and why to some homeowners these windows aren’t as green as everyone seems to think.
