A Galley Kitchen Improves Circulation
Expanding the kitchen into a poorly designed entry solved several floor-plan problems
After builder Dave Mulder was hired to move a bathroom doorway, he suggested that the homeowner consider remodeling the kitchen and incorporating the back porch. The homeowner loved the kitchen, but it was cramped, hard to navigate, and far from ergonomic. Moreover, its small windows didn’t add much light. He agreed to the project and now, in addition to the new bathroom doorway, has a new entry into the living room, a skylight over the back stairs, a new island with informal seating, new cabinets made from bamboo plywood, and a mudroom with a window seat and plenty of cabinet space for shoes and boots.
