It’s no secret that the common coated-wire dish rack is too utilitarian for most well-designed kitchens. Still, as an item receiving regular use, it’s not convenient to keep it under the sink. At 21 in. wide and 15 in. high, the Simple Human Steel Frame Dish Rack is a kitchen standout, but thanks to its elegant, functional design, no disguise is necessary.
Designer Shannon Good vouches for it. An avowed minimalist, Good prefers to keep kitchen necessities in plain sight—meaning they must be attractive and durable. This dish rack earns its place in Good’s kitchen from its clean lines and a stainless-steel frame with a fingerprint-proof coating. Functionality comes from a coated bamboo knife block, a ventilated utensil tray, soft-coated steel flip-up tines, steel flip-out cup supports, and an ABS-plastic extendable drip tray with a 360° rotating drain spout. The plastic components come in gray or white; the gray blends in with the steel while the white offers contrast.
Taken together, these features promote efficient drainage, which is what, after all, dish racks are supposed to be all about. Over-engineered, you say? Watch it perform on video on Simple Human’s Web site, and vote with your credit card. At $70, it may drain your wallet, but the five-year warranty—you won’t get that on coated wire—may ease the sting.
