In 94 OSHA started ramping up fall protection requirements for residential construction. In 1999 they issued new fall protection guidelines leaving most of us baffled how to comply. While the guidelines may have been well intended, many of the provisions seemed a lot more dangerous to me than the benefit they would provide in the event of a fall.
In mid June, OSHA will revert to an older, more relaxed standard (Standard 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M). Here’s a link to the announcement in the Federal Register. And a NAHB article on the announcement.
NAHB research center has funding to provide free fall protection seminars for HBAs. HBAs can apply to have the training brought to their membership by filling out an online application.
