I recently took the opportunity to spend the night at the Silas Robbins house in Old Wethersfield, CT. Now a Bed & Breakfast, the home was originally built in 1873. Robbins was the owner of Johnson, Robbins and Co.—a seed company.
The home did not always look this stunning. The core of the home burned in a fire during the 1990’s. The fate of the large home was uncertain. Fortunately, In May of 2001 Shireen and John Aforismo purchased the property and began a full restoration of the home. The restoration was completed in October of 2007.
With its large Mansard roof and elaborate trim detail, the home is a brilliant example of Second Empire architecture.
I think the home is among the most beautiful I’ve seen. The care that was put into the restoration of this home is evident the moment you see it.
