To make a drill bit that’s long enough and thin enough for discreet probes, take a stiff wire (insulation props are perfect), cut one end on a bias, chuck it in your drill, and go. I’ve gotten through walls and even floors with this; I have even gone around corners.

Or you can use the wire that holds up political signs- there'll be a lot of that available in a few days.
