I’ve built homes in Washington DC, then Portland,OR and for the past 6 years here in Austin, TX. It was shocking to me how differently we build homes in these three different parts of the country. But if you think about it, we should be building homes differently as those climates are dramatically different.
Most houses in Hot/Humid climates (like Austin, TX) don’t have basements so that means that most ductwork in Southern houses run through attic spaces. We are a cooling dominated climate so how much sense does it make to run 55 degree air conditioned air through an attic that can reach 130+ degrees in the summertime. In this video I’ll show you a rather civilized attic space that really makes for a comfortable & efficient house!
