Major retailers offering their own line of cordless powertools is nothing new. Sears has had Craftsman and Home Depot has an exclusive with Rigid and Ryobi. But when Lowe’s leveraged their hand tool brand Kobalt into a cordless powertool brand, that caught me by surpirse. To get a sense of these tools I tested their new 18v drill driver. Let’s take a closer look.
Features include:
-Belt hook and bit holder
-All metal chuck
-Battery charger with digital read-out
-Battery with charge indicator
Specs and performance:
-More torque than Ryobi and Porter Cale models
-Beats out Makita on number of holes drilled on a single charge
Minor complaints
-Chunky hand-grip
-No seperate drill and drive modes
Bottom Line, I like the specs and I like the features. Now I’m just left wondering is the drill gonna go for the long haul? And for that we’ll just have to wait and see.

My concern is where am I going to get a battery packs and other parts for this tool a few years down the road assuming the tool survives
I wish power tool manufacturers would get together and standardize all the battery packs.
